Sharing and sources

Sharing, Scout and connecting your sources

Who can see the people you know, how Scout helps while you browse, and the ways to bring your network in.

Who can see the people you know

One switch for your team
There is one team-sharing switch for your contacts. It is off by default. It lives in the member panel, where you manage your own settings and sharing. It covers people brought in from a LinkedIn export or a spreadsheet. People saved with Scout are the exception: they are visible to the whole team, whatever the switch says.

Switch off (the default)

Colleagues can see that a route exists, for example “a teammate knows someone at Broadridge”, so they know it is worth asking. For people from an export or a spreadsheet, they do not see the name or details.

Switch on

Colleagues can see the people you brought in, with names and details, and can use them in their own searches and routes.
Sharing outside your team
You can also share your network with a named person, a Growth Partner or Inspiring Connections. You choose who, you confirm it first, and you can stop at any time. They see who you know, never your private notes.

Scout, for members

Optional, and CIS works without it
Scout is a small add-on for Chrome. When you have a person’s LinkedIn profile open, it shows what CIS already knows about them.
1
Install it
Scout is being opened up to members in stages. When it is ready for your workspace you will be sent a short install guide. Add it to Chrome and pin it to the toolbar.
2
Sign in
Open Scout and sign in with the same email address you use for your workspace.
3
Look someone up
Open someone’s profile on LinkedIn and click the Scout icon. Chrome’s side panel opens and shows what CIS already knows about them: who they are in your workspace, the routes to them, your history together and a draft message you can copy.

Two ways Scout can work

Standard is how Scout starts, and it is all most people need. It reads only the web address of the profile you have open, never the page itself, and it adds nothing to the LinkedIn page. Full is optional and off until you switch it on in Scout settings. It reads the LinkedIn page you are viewing. Saving people from LinkedIn into CIS is not switched on yet.
Before you switch Full on
Scout’s Full mode reads the LinkedIn page you are viewing. LinkedIn’s terms do not allow browser extensions to do this, and LinkedIn could restrict your account. Scout shows you this notice first and asks you to tick it. CIS keeps a record of your choice and the date. You can switch back to Standard at any time, in one click, in Scout settings.

What Scout saves

In Standard, nothing is saved from the LinkedIn page. Saving from the page with Full is not switched on yet. Scout does nothing in the background, never messages anyone and never signs in to LinkedIn for you. People you save with Scout are visible to your whole team by name. The team-sharing switch does not hide them.

If Scout says you are signed out

Open Scout settings from the side panel and sign in again with your workspace email. Scout uses your own sign-in, so you never need to paste a key.

Connecting your sources

Your own accounts, your own say-so
Open “Connected accounts” in the app to see every source and whether it is live. Each one uses only your own account, and you can disconnect it whenever you like.

Gmail and Google Calendar

Connect your Google account so CIS can see who you talk to and which meetings you have. It reads who you talk to and when, and your meeting details. You tick a consent box first.

A LinkedIn export

Ask LinkedIn for your data, then upload the file it sends you. Upload again at any time to refresh. This is one way in, not the only way.

A spreadsheet of contacts

Import a CSV file from wherever you keep your people: another system, an old address book or a list a colleague sent you.

Scout

Shows what CIS knows about the LinkedIn profile you have open. With Full switched on, it also adds the people you choose to save, as described above.

Your own documents

Upload company documents and CIS reads them for intelligence about the organisation, for your workspace only.
